Playas del Coco, Costa Rica, is one of the oldest beach communities in Guanacaste, and part of the celebrated “Gold Coast.” It is the closest beach town to Liberia and is also situated close to the Papagayo Peninsula, as well as the resort towns of Playa Flamingo and Tamarindo.
Given its strategic location, Playas del Coco – also known as “El Coco” to Ticos – is a popular tourist and local destination and a thriving hub for businesses that cater to both demographics. The town boasts a vibrant dining and nightlife scene and offers numerous adventure activities. Ocean enthusiasts will find plenty of opportunities for surfing, snorkeling, scuba diving, and sailing, among other water-based activities.
Playas del Coco is near the Rincon de la Vieja volcano (dormant), several picturesque waterfalls, and the Las Baulas National Marine Park, which is home to a vast population of sea turtle species. For expats, Coco Beach offers a laid-back atmosphere while remaining close to creature comforts and shopping.
